The book I am reading has no author, but after its publication Beatrice Sparks, a psychologist began making media appearances presenting herself as the book's editor. Therefore I want to write a little about Beatrice Sparks. The picture above is Beatrice Sparks, the publisher of the diary.
Beatrice was born January 15, 1918 in Goldburg, Idaho. She is an American psychologist and is known for producing books or diaries of troubled teenagers and past patients.
Sparks began working with teenagers in 1955 after attending the University of California at Los Angeles and Brigham Young University. She has also worked as a music therapist at Utah Mental State Hospital. Sparks said that her experience working with troubled teenagers made her want to produce cautionary tales that would keep other teens from falling into the same traps. Her first work, “Go ask Alice” was published in 1971. In interviews conducted over the next few years, sparks indentified herself as the book’s editor.
This is some of Beatrice Sparks work:
All these books were actually published with the byline 'Anonymous'
• Go Ask Alice (1971)
• Jay's Journal (1978)
• It Happened to Nancy: By an Anonymous Teenager (1994)
• Almost Lost: The True Story of an Anonymous Teenager's Life on the Streets (1996)
• Annie's Baby : The Diary of Anonymous, a Pregnant Teenager (1998)
• Treacherous Love : The Diary of an Anonymous Teenager (2000)
• Kim : Empty Inside : The Diary of an Anonymous Teenager (2002)
• Finding Katie: The Diary of Anonymous, A Teenager in Foster Care (2005)
As I said before the book has no author, but the book the actual diary of a troubled teenage girl who died of drug overdose in the late 1960´s and is therefore presented as a testimony against drug use. In the book we get to know Alice better and about her life. Alice is not the girls name; the actual diarist’s name is never given in the book. The story caused a sensation when published and remains in print as of 2008.
